Chaitanya

Chaitanya, a developmental organization established in 1993, has played a catalytic role in spreading the Self-Help-Group (SHG) movement in and around Maharashtra.

Chaitanya is one of the pioneers of the SHG movement in the state, with considerable field experience in promotion of local community based institutions of women, especially Self-help groups, Clusters and Federation.

Chaitanya facilitated the formation of the first SHG federation in Maharashtra – the ‘ Grameen Mahila Swayamsiddha Sangha ’. Read more>>

With operations spread over Khed, Ambegaon and Junnar blocks of Pune District in the State of Maharashtra in India, Chaitanya is working with 805 SHGs with over 14000 women members. As a part of strengthening local level institutions, Chaitanya has also promoted 52 clusters of SHGs (each one comprising 15-20 SHGs from neighboring villages) and three block level federations. These federations provide financial as well as non-financial services to the SHG members.
